An indie comedy-drama about a high school senior that"s trying to deal with teenage life, while living with her overbearing mother in early 2000s Sacramento. The film was written and directed by first time feature filmmaker Greta Gerwig, who also co-wrote "FARANCES HA" and "MISTRESS AMERICA" with director Noah Baumbach) which she also starred in. It stars Saoirse Ronan, Laurie Metcalf, Tray Letts, Lucas Hedges, Timothee Chalamet, Beanie Feldstein, Stephen McKinley Henderson and Lois Smith. It"s received unanimous rave reviews from critics so far, and it"s also been nominated for multiple prestigious awards as well. I really enjoyed it.
The story is set in Sacramento, over the school year of 2002 and 2003. It revolves around a senior named Christine McPherson (Ronan) who has changed her name to Lady Bird. Lady Bird struggles to get along with her overbearing mother (Metcalf) and she applies to multiple colleges outside of Sacramento, against her mother"s wishes. She also struggles to get along with the other students at her school, and romantic relationships with boys her age are especially a challenge for her. The story concludes with Lady Bird going to college, and you"ll have to watch it to see where she ends up going.
The movie is a great coming-of-age tale, that seems to perfectly capture a time and place in a certain person"s life. Ronan is awesome in the lead, and Gerwig definitely proves she"s a talented filmmaker as well. The film is funny, sweet and it touches on a lot of important issues, I think, to a young person Lady Bird"s age. The relationship depicted between her and her mother is also really touching at times too. I definitely recommend it.

A true masterpiece, LOTR goes beyond most expectations.
(may contain some light spoilers) Well, first things first: I loved it. it is, without a single doubt, truly the greatest fantasy movie ever. a little hard to digest for most of the people who are not familiar with the genere, but for a Tolkien freak like me, it was pure, clear, flowing liquid visual bliss. Sure, it is definitely not up to the standard of the books, but like a friend once said, the only way to make a perfect translation of them to the screen would"ve been to film every page turning around. Being objective, and analizing just the movie, not trying to compare it with the books, I give it a 9.7 on a scale from 1 to 10.
The prelude was beautiful, yet i wished it had spent more time with the forging of the rings. Sauron is THE ultimate badass, not the generic "evil overlord" that I had imagined from one of the last TV commercials. he exudes a real aura of peril and fear. The Shire is paradise, nuff said.
One serious flaw of the movie is how distances are managed, that is in my humble opinion, why the pace seems rushed to most of the viewers. Middle Earth looks real, but way to small. PJ could have used the "travel map" cross-dissolve effect that is used on the Indiana Jones movies, specially with Gandalf"s trip to Gondor and Isengard. The moth thing is just weird. br>
All of the SFX were great, they made me belive that what I was seeing was real. Not at one point in the movie did the CGI made me loose the suspension of disbelief, WETA kicks ILM"s butt. The Balrog is great, a demon of shadow and fire indeed, with it"s smoky and subtle wings of enveloping darkness. the face full of supernatural rage. fiery eyes and mouth, the curly black horns. yeah
Arwen works wonders for me, although I see no reason why Glorfindel had to be cut. Elrond is a bit too uptight, and has become one of those actors that you can"t help but remember their previous roles as soon as you see their faces(kinda like what happened to Jim Carrey. I was thinking he was going to make some comment along the lines of "okaaay dersonnnn" all the while he was on screen. But this doesn"t mean he was a bad actor. just that I couldn"t shake off the impression he left from Matrix.
Lorien, is the weak part of the movie, for all the reasons stated by many others. Still, it"s not THAT bad. just incomplete.
Oh yeah, the movie is too short give me a 6 hour epic dammit!

I"ll post a more complete review once I see it again and have rested. night all.

For those of you who don"t know that scene where Aragorn deflects the knife was not a special effect, the actor that played Lurtz had trouble seeing through the make-up he was wearing and was suppse to through the knife (It was a real knife mind you) at the tree next to the actor that played aragorn but misfired so the actor actually deflected a real knife.

It makes it look like they all argue ??. It"s not like the DVD.

In Paris in 1944, Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi"s chief propaganda master and filmmaker, plans to debut his latest film, "Nation"s Pride". The film, based on the victorious military exploits of Private Fredrick Zoller, stars Zoller as himself. Because of his attraction to its pretty proprietress Emmanuelle Mimieux, Zoller convinces Goebbels and the Nazi brass to hold the premiere at Mimieux"s cinema. Landa is to act as chief of security for the event. When the Americans get wind of the screening and the fact that most of the Nazi highers-up will be in attendance, Raine"s team is tasked with blowing up the cinema during the screening. They are assisted by renowned German actress, Bridget von Hammersmark, who has been working as a spy for the British. They believe luck is on their side when they learn that Hitler himself is scheduled to attend. Beyond being found out, Raine"s team face two as of yet unknown issues. The first is Mimieux, who is really Shoshanna Dreyfus, a Jew who saw her family brutally murdered by Landa four years earlier, and who may have her own plans for Landa and the Nazis. Such a great scene. Top notch acting by both actors. Brilliant. That German NCO had not one but two Iron Crosses. There was the medal the Jew (don"t know his name) taped with his bat and then the red ribbon coming out from his uniform. Along side the two Iron Crosses are the General Assault Badge, this could have been awarded for attending to battlefield casualties in close combat conditions, to engineers and artillerymen who fought along side an infantry assault and if it was awarded prior to 1942 could have been for the single-handed destruction of a tank. The last medal is a Wound Badge, this seems self explanatory but its the equivalent to the Purple Heart, also the black Wound Badge was awarded if you were wounded once or twice so who knows he may have been wounded for each Iron Cross. This may have been a flaw in the movie but the Wound Badge this officer has is all black, all black badges were awarded in 1918 of the First World War and black and silver for the Second, so he may have even been a veteran of the First World War but who knows. Also the one who tried to run away after the Jew beat the NCO to death also had an Iron Cross 2nd Class (Red Ribbon) Also I see a lot of comments calling him an office but his rank is FeldWebel, or Staff Sargent. From what i can tell from his medals and uniform this man was most likely enlisted from the very beginning. The biggest give away is the Eagle, the version he has was only issued in 1935 so this man volunteered before open conflict even broke out. Also like i said earlier because of his all black Wound Badge he may have also served in the First World War. This man was a hardened veteran and a soldier to the core. (I know this is fiction but i like to think of it as fleshes out his character.

Went YARD on that one.
